The result is a soft, warm and durable wool that's perfect for authentic Icelandic sweaters as well as a wide range of other knitting projects.
Plötulopi can be knitted with a single strand, two or three strands held together, or combined with other yarns to create different textures and weights.

Washing Instructions
Hand wash in warm water (30°C) using a mild wool detergent. Leave the garment to soak for approximately five minutes before gently squeezing out the water. Rinse in clean water at the same temperature, squeeze out the excess moisture without wringing, then lay flat on a towel to dry. Shape the garment while damp and allow it to dry naturally.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Plötulopi?
Plötulopi is Iceland's traditional unspun wool, also known as pencil roving, and has been used for generations to knit authentic Icelandic lopi sweaters.
Because it is unspun, it should be handled with a little extra care while knitting. However, thanks to the unique properties of Icelandic wool, it becomes surprisingly strong once worked into a garment.

What makes Þingborg Plötulopi special?
Þingborg Plötulopi is produced by Ístex using carefully selected first-class Icelandic lambswool.
The wool is washed with mild cleansing agents that help preserve its natural lanolin and other valuable characteristics. Combined with the use of only the finest lambswool, this careful production process results in an exceptionally soft, natural wool that retains all the qualities Icelandic wool is known for.
