Iceland Knit Fest 2026 – Creativity, Community and Craft
At the beginning of June, the town of Blönduós fills with colourful yarn, creative ideas and knitters from all directions as Iceland Knit Fest or Prjónagleði in Icelandic celebrates its tenth year.
For many of us who love wool, handcrafts and a quiet moment with knitting needles in hand, this weekend has become one of the highlights of the year.
This year the festival takes place from June 4–7 and, as always, the programme is filled with inspiring events and creative gatherings. Prjónagleði is not only about yarn and knitting patterns — it is also about people, stories, inspiration and community.
We at Hörpugull will be part of the Yarn Market during the festival and are incredibly excited to meet both familiar faces and new wool lovers.
A Festival for the Knitting Community
What makes Prjónagleði so special is the atmosphere that forms when people with a shared passion come together.
During the festival, Blönduós becomes a place where knitters gather to share ideas, learn new techniques, discover inspiration and enjoy the creative spirit that fills the town throughout the weekend.
Visitors can enjoy:
- workshops and courses
- lectures and presentations
- open houses hosted by local makers
- exhibitions
- guided walks
- knitting gatherings in local homes
- and of course the popular Yarn Market
There is something truly special about seeing an entire community come together around craft, creativity and shared joy.

The new Salka Valka kit will be at our booth on the Prjónagleði festival
Workshops, Lectures and Creative Inspiration
This year’s programme brings together both traditional knitting techniques and more modern textile and repair methods.
Guests can attend workshops in double knitting, sashiko repair techniques, spinning, crochet, embroidery and design. There will also be inspiring talks on photographing handmade work, creative embroidery and the importance of handcrafts for wellbeing and stress relief.
One of the things we love most about Prjónagleði is how beautifully it balances tradition and innovation — something that feels deeply connected to Icelandic wool culture.
Stephen West Comes to Iceland
One of the highlights of this year’s festival will be the visit of Stephen West from Westknits, known by knitters around the world for his colourful designs and unique approach to colour and shape.
He will hold both workshops and a lecture during the festival, sharing his design process, his love for Iceland and his thoughts on working with colour in shawls, sweaters and socks.
For many knitters, it will no doubt be a special experience to meet him surrounded by the wool culture and landscapes of northern Iceland.
This Year’s Theme – Renewal and New Life
This year’s festival places special focus on giving old knitted garments new life through creativity, colour and playful combinations of yarn textures and weights.
At Hörpugull, we find this to be a beautiful reminder of how meaningful handmade garments can become. Knitted pieces often carry memories, care and time within them — and sometimes all it takes is a little imagination to continue their story.
Meet Us at the Yarn Market
Throughout the festival, Hörpugull will have a booth at the Yarn Market where we will bring hand-dyed Icelandic Þingborg lopi, carefully selected colours and beautiful materials for summer knitting projects.
If you are visiting Iceland in early June and love yarn, wool and knitting, Prjónagleði is truly a festival worth experiencing.
We would love to meet you in person at the Yarn Market, where you can explore our hand-dyed Icelandic wool, discover new colours and enjoy the warm creative atmosphere that makes this festival so special.
We are very much looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere, meeting fellow knitters and being part of this unique celebration of Icelandic craft, creativity and knitting joy.
You can find more information and the full festival programme at Prjónagleði.
